| FEDERAL FIREARMS LAWS |
| There are several federal laws that regulate firearms traffic into, from, and within the United States. Those federal laws include the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA), the National Firearms Act (NFA), and the Arms Export Control Act (AECA). The Department of the Treasury has the authority to administer and to enforce these laws. The Secretary of the Treasury has delegated responsibility for the enforcement of the GCA and the NFA to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). | INTERNATIONAL PARENTAL KIDNAPPING |
| A person commits a federal criminal offense if he or she removes a child from the United States with the intent to obstruct the lawful exercise of parental rights. Such offense is prohibited by the International Parental Kidnapping Act, which Act was enacted in 1993. A "child" is defined under the Act as a person who is under the age of 16 years old. Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies have become involved with prosecutions of offenses involving gangs and gang violence.
